Development strategy of Sviščaki tourist resort in Ilirska Bistrica

Sviščaki is a small plateau in the middle of the forest region Mašun under Snežnik in the southwest of Slovenia. The location, which housed an Alpine house prior to World War II and marked the beginning of the mountain tourism, is now a hamlet of holiday homes, most of them privately owned.

The region is famous for preserving its natural heritage and it offers numerous opportunities for the development of hiking and other forms of recreational tourism. The location is designed for sport and recreational camps as well as for spending one’s spare time actively.

The restricted area Nature 2000, which surrounds Sviščaki, the relatively bad approachableness and the unfamiliarity of the region are the problems, which have to be considered when planning the tourism development.

In the Development strategy of the tourism in the municipality of Ilirska Bistrica several promising products have been defined. These products have great potential and are key contributors to the development of the tourism in the municipality.
